Habit Tracking

Tracking your habits can be a life changing undertaking. Tracking can help achieve your personal goals and make you aware of how often you actually do daily tasks. While there are multiple reasons to use these trackers, I like to use mine to keep an eye on how consistently I am performing healthy and useful habits I want to build. I have been using a habit tracker for over four months now and found that it helped me perform tasks more consistently than before I used it.

Habit tracking is typically used in bullet journals so users wouldn’t have to write out daily tasks on every page of their planner. But it has evolved into being used for a variety of reasons such as fitness, work, household, and financial tasks. Habit trackers allow users to simply mark off what tasks they performed that day. At the end of the month you can look back at your tracker and see how well you did and decide what you need to improve on.

I like using my habit tracker to keep a tab on habits like working out, spending money, cleaning my room, and eating homemade meals. By marking off what I achieved each night I feel motivated to do the tasks to the best of my ability. While there are habits I aim to do everyday or multiple times a week, there are some habits I include on my tracker to see how many times I complete them over a month. For example, I don’t clean my room every single day but I try to do it once or twice a week  and using the tracker reminds me to complete the task every so often. I also include a weigh-in day once a week to keep an eye on my progress.

As you can see my tracker is set up by day and a specific habit. This makes it easy to color in the correct box when the habit is completed. I like to use incentives to complete my habits so at the end of each month I will treat myself if I complete 75% of my regular tasks. The treat gives me something to look forward to and motivates me to finish as many tasks as possible.

When you start tracking your habits it is important to start with a positive mindset. You might make a few mistakes, but your success will come from your persistence. Using the tracker become extremely helpful when you start seeing how consistently you are performing your habits and gives you a positive push to keep going.

Happy Tracking,

Josey T
