Sound Mind, Sound Body

Having a clear mind opens the gateway to living a healthy mental and physical life. Living with a healthy emotional wellness is essential to successfully navigate our fast-paced world. This healthy state of mind can reduce stress and blood pressure, release muscle tension, and even help with anxiety. The two tools I use to create a clear mind are both meditation and yoga.

I find that yoga helps bridge the gap between physical and emotional wellness in a relaxed environment that other physical exercises cannot accomplish. For me, yoga has been instrumental in recovering from a traumatic back injury. With this injury, I found my core muscles weak and cramped up. After consistently alternating both yoga routines and common yoga stretches I found my muscles loosening and taking pressure off of sensitive nerves in my back that can cause pain to go down my legs.

When I started practicing yoga I noticed that I gained more time to think about deeper topics while I stretched and performed routines. I like to also integrate my yoga and meditation. It may not seem like a typical meditation session, this time allows me to reflect on bigger life goals I have and look back on actions I take and decide if they are pushing me in a direction I think will benefit me either now or in the future.

While meditation may mean one thing to me, it could possibly mean something completely different to you! If you’re interested in trying it out I would suggest sitting or lying in a quiet space and allowing your body to relax. One main goal is to keep busy thoughts, such as what all you need to accomplish today, out of your head and either try to quiet your mind or reflect on deeper topics that may be weighing on you.

Of course there are multiple ways to meditate, so you can visit THIS website and read about different meditation styles!

I can confidently say that I would not be able to share, let alone proceed with my fitness journey if I did not practice yoga and meditation. I hope you will give yoga, meditation, or even both a chance.

Happy Thinking
